Development prospects of alternative energy sources in the Central Aran economic-geographical region

Abstract

In modern times, the development of alternative and renewable energy sources is one of the priority directions on a global scale. In the socioeconomic development strategy of Azerbaijan, diversification of the energy sector and expansion of environmentally friendly energy production are considered to be the main goals. In this regard, the assessment of the alternative energy potential of individual economic and geographical regions of the country is of particular relevance. The study analyzed the possibilities and development prospects of alternative energy sources in the Central Aran economic-geographical region of Azerbaijan. Taking into account the geographical location, climatic conditions and natural resource potential of the region, it was determined that there are favorable opportunities for solar, wind and biomass energy. In particular, solar energy resources were assessed as a promising direction for Saatli, Sabirabad, Imishli, Beylagan and other plain regions. There is also a favorable resource base for bioenergy production using agricultural waste. As a result of the research, the main obstacles and opportunities affecting the development of alternative energy sources in the region were identified, and recommendations were made for the formation of an environmentally and economically effective energy policy.
